The main intention of the department of Mathematics, is to bring together academic staff who are internationally recognised for their contributions to the academic world in Mathematics and Statistics, with talented young students who intend to be successful in their education and research interests, away from a system based on memorising facts into an educational forum based on free analytical thought.

With a creative approach to the fundamentals of mathematical thought, with a curriculum in harmony with some of the best known universities in the world, Izmir Univeristy of Economics, Mathematics Department, offers an education which encourages students in both modern knowledge and practices and in the many branches of modern technology which incorporate these sciences.

Our approach is interdisciplinary; we take the esthetically beautiful theory of mathematics and show how it can be used in real world situations. We encourage our students to see where their own potential lies, and realize that potential for themselves. Our course structure reflects these aims. Only a person who is proficient in theory can perform applications efficiently, so for the first two years our students study a wide spectrum of theoretical mathematics and real world applications.
