Students of the Department of Mathematics are required to complete one internship lasting 20 consecutive working days.

Students must carry out their internship during a period when they do not have any courses (such as summer break or semester break).

During the internship, students are expected to utilize their knowledge of Mathematics and/or Statistics within the host institution.

Before starting the internship, each student must consult with and obtain approval from the Chair of the Mathematics Department Internship Committee regarding the nature of the duties they will perform during the internship.

After receiving approval from the Committee Chair, the student must contact the Internship Center and initiate the procedure.

In order to be eligible for the internship, students must have completed their second year.

Students in the spring semester of their fourth year who are in graduation status may also complete their compulsory and/or voluntary internship during the semester, provided that they do not have more than two full course days in a week. Students who meet this condition may also undertake their voluntary internship in other fields.

The Committee reserves the right to conduct interviews, assign practical tasks, and/or request a revision of the report if deemed necessary.

For students whose only remaining requirement for graduation is the internship, the submission and evaluation of the internship report must be completed no later than one week before the start of the following semester.

Internship reports must be submitted by hand to the Mathematics Department Internship Committee within 7 days following the end of the internship. Reports sent by mail will not be accepted.

Students whose internships are graded as “U-Failed” are required to repeat the internship. Students who do not complete their internship cannot proceed with their graduation and clearance procedures.
III. INTERNSHIP PROCEDURES:

Internship Application and Internship Site Approval: Before starting the internship, each student must consult with the Chair of the Mathematics Department Internship Committee and obtain approval regarding the type of tasks they will perform at the host institution. After receiving approval, the student must have the “Internship Acceptance Form” signed by the institution and submit it to the Internship Committee Chair by the end of June to receive final approval. The “Internship Acceptance Form” must be submitted to the Internship Committee no later than two weeks before the start date of the internship.

Intern Evaluation Form: Once the internship site is approved, the student is given an “Intern Evaluation Form” to be submitted to the host institution. This form is to be completed by the institution at the end of the internship. The completed form, sealed in an envelope bearing the institution’s stamp, must be delivered by the student to the Internship Committee.

Internship Site Evaluation Form: Every student who completes their internship must fill out the “Internship Site Evaluation Form” and submit it to the Internship Committee along with the internship report.

Preparation of the Internship Report: The internship report must be written in the department's language of instruction, in accordance with the content and formatting guidelines specified in Section IV. If requested by the institution, a Turkish summary may be submitted to them.

Submission of the Internship Report: The internship report, written in the department’s language of instruction, must be submitted by hand to the relevant Internship Committee within 7 days following the end of the internship. Reports sent by mail will not be accepted.

Evaluation of the Internship Report: All internship documents are reviewed by the relevant Internship Committee or the appointed faculty member.
Internship Committee:
The organization, coordination, and evaluation of internship performance are carried out by the Department Internship Committee. The Committee consists of three faculty members appointed by the Head of Department from among the department’s academic staff and continues its duties until a new faculty member is appointed by the Head of Department.

Rules to Follow When Preparing the Internship Report:

Reports that are not prepared in accordance with the Internship Report Format and Writing Guidelines specified in the guide will not be evaluated. The Internship Committee may request that certain sections be rewritten if necessary.

The “Intern Evaluation Form,” filled out by the authorized personnel at the host institution upon completion of the internship, must be submitted by the student to the Internship Committee in a sealed envelope bearing the institution's official stamp, or it may be sent by the host institution via mail to the following address:

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the form is delivered, and it must be submitted together with the Internship Report.

The completed Internship Report must be submitted to the relevant office for delivery to the Internship Committee by the deadline stated in the IUE Internship Directive. Reports that are not submitted on time will not be evaluated, and the student will be considered unsuccessful in the internship.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Does our university place students in internship positions before the internship?
Students are responsible for finding their own internship placements. However, internship requests received from institutions are announced via university web mail. Therefore, students are advised to regularly check their university email account (name.surname@std.ieu.edu.tr).
- Is there a form I need to take with me when I go to the institution for an internship interview?
Some institutions may require a document stating that your internship is compulsory and that your insurance premiums will be covered by our university. In such cases, you can use the Compulsory Internship Application Form. You should fill in the “Student Information” and “Company Information” sections of the form and then submit it to the Office of the Dean of Students to receive an official document number and signature.
- Where can I get this document?
For this purpose, you can use the MANDATORY INTERNSHIP APPLICATION FORM. You can fill in the “Student Information” and “Company Information” sections on the form and bring it to the Dean of Students to obtain an official document number and signature.
- The institution where I will do my internship is located outside the city/abroad. Is it mandatory to submit the INTERNSHIP ACCEPTANCE FORM with a wet signature?
No. A wet signature is not mandatory. Internship acceptance forms sent by fax are also accepted.
- At which institution and in which department will my mandatory internship be accepted?
The institutions and departments accepted by each department may vary. You can consult your department’s Internship Committee before attending an interview with any institution.
- How can I find out who is on my department’s Internship Committee?

- How can I access the forms I will need during my mandatory internship?
You can access the Internship Guide and the forms at the bottom of the page.
- Should I fill out the forms on the computer or by hand?
You may fill out the forms either on the computer or by hand. There is no objection to using black-and-white printouts of the forms.
- I couldn’t access the web page address provided for the forms. How can I access the internship guide or the documents?

- I have already completed my mandatory internships. However, I found an institution where I can do a voluntary internship, and they are requesting that my insurance premium be paid. What can I do?
Our university supports all internships undertaken by students for their personal and professional development. However, in order for your insurance premium to be covered, the insurance process must be completed before the start of the internship.
- At the end of the internship:
A report is not required unless requested by the internship committee.
- I will do my internship abroad; will my insurance premium be paid?
The insurance premiums of our students who do internships abroad are not covered. Therefore, these students do not need to submit two copies of their ID card and two photographs along with the internship acceptance form.
During the Internship:
- Can I do my internship together with summer school?
Doing an internship together with summer school is not accepted.
- Can I do my internship during the semester break?
Except for students in the Psychology and Translation & Interpreting Departments, no other department is allowed to do internships during the semester break. Students from other departments must complete their internships during the summer break for a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks (20 working days).
- How many days am I required to attend the internship?
The required duration of the internship is specified in weeks. If the institution where you are doing your internship operates on Saturdays, you are also expected to work on those days as a regular employee. Compulsory internships must be completed continuously for a minimum of 4 weeks.
- Can I do my internship remotely?
You are required to be physically present at the institution during the internship period. Remote (online) internships are not accepted.
After the Internship:
- Where can I obtain the necessary information to write my internship report?
You must write your internship report according to the rules and questions provided in the INTERNSHIP GUIDE. You can access the Internship Guide from the same address where you obtained the forms.
- We are required to write the internship report in English. Do I need to translate the questions into English myself?
If you go to the English menu on our university’s homepage, you can access the English version of the Internship Guide.
- Does each page of the Internship Report need to be stamped?
Each page of the Internship Report must be stamped. (See IUE Internship Guide, pages 7 and 8.) Additionally, the envelope containing the Intern Evaluation Form must also be stamped by the institution.
- Am I required to submit my internship report no later than one week after the end of my internship?
Yes. Internship reports must be submitted to the internship committee within one week.
- My friends at other universities are writing a daily internship file. What am I supposed to do?
At İzmir University of Economics, filling out a daily internship logbook is not required for the Compulsory Internship course. Instead, a report written according to the rules and questions in the Internship Guide is required at the end of the internship.
- Can I send my internship report via cargo?
Yes. However, the university does not take responsibility for reports that are not delivered in person.

If the institution where the internship will take place requests documentation that the insurance premium will be paid by the university during the internship or that the internship is compulsory, the COMPULSORY INTERNSHIP ONLINE APPLICATION FORM available on the homepage of the Career Guidance Center must be filled out.
