"Interview with Konak Anatolian High School Students"
As Izmir University of Economics Department of Mathematics, we hosted Konak Anatolian High School students on Tuesday, May 9th. We were very happy with the visit that 15 students made on their own with the permission of their teachers. In the 1-hour event organized for them, the students stated that they have a special interest in mathematics and that they have many questions arising from this interest. They talked about the phobias and prejudices of their families and circles towards mathematics and talked about the effect of these phobias and prejudices on their career choice. They stated that if their families were not so pessimistic about mathematics, their first choice would be to study mathematics. The students visited our university campus after their conversations with our department head Prof. Dr. Gözde Yazgı Tütüncü and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemal Murta Özkut. In addition, they were guests of the Discrete Mathematics lesson of our department and followed the lesson with interest. We had a pleasant day with Konak Anatolian High School students, who honored us with the flowers and gifts they brought at the end of the event.
