AN IMPORTANT COOPERATION IN BIOMATHEMATICS FIELD FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu that made the openning speech of Biomathematics Research Workshop that took place on April 20-25 stated that the fastest developments in interdisciplinary studies were about biomathematics and said, "We signed a protocol between Department of Mathematics and Illinois State University in the framework of joint agreements and student and lecturer exchange. We cordially support the studies of the lecturers in this field."

In the last day of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Olcay Akman made a speech about "The Applications of Genetic Algorithms in Biology". Students and lecturers from different departments attended the speech. After the seminar, long discussions are made on the subject.
After the visit it is decided that a graduate student in Izmir University of Economics Department of Mathematics in 2008-2009 academic year to be given a scholarship to go to study at Illinois State University for one year to study on biomathematics and graduate with a double diploma.
